How Vistage Chairs Recruit Members on LinkedIn: Data From 80,000 Connection Requests
Since 2022 we have run LinkedIn and email member recruitment for Vistage chairs across the US and the United Arab Emirates, more than 80,000 connection requests to CEOs and business owners in all. This is what those campaigns show, and what the chairs who fill their groups do differently.
What a campaign month turns into
A typical chair campaign reaches 300 new prospects a month on LinkedIn and email. Once it is running, a campaign month produces, on average:
- 45 to 48 replies per campaign month (300 new prospects)
- 8 to 12 interested prospects
- 5 to 8 meetings with the chair
The busiest chair we work with, in Greater Phoenix, books 16 to 17 confirmed meetings a month. See the full benchmarks.
Why chair outreach outperforms sales outreach
The same process aimed at selling a service gets fewer replies: 24 to 30 replies per campaign month (300 new prospects) against 45 to 48 for chairs. The difference is the offer: a CEO is being invited into a group of peers, not pitched a product. Chairs who keep their messages framed as an invitation, to a conversation or to see a meeting, keep that advantage. Chairs who start describing pricing and program details in the first message lose it.
What it looks like in practice
- A chair in Greater Phoenix has signed 18 members from our outreach since 2024, 12 of them in 2026.
- A chair in Los Angeles County signed the first member eight weeks after outreach began and launched a new CEO group with 9 members within five months.
- A chair in Seattle building a group from scratch signed 16 members in eight months, 5 of them from connections our team made.
- A chair in Buffalo, New York signed 4 new members in seven months, each confirmed to us by the chair.
Five things chairs who fill their groups do
- Target by fit, not by title alone. Company size, industry and distance from the meeting location matter as much as the CEO title. A tight list beats a big one.
- Lead with an invitation. The first message offers a conversation or a chance to see a meeting. Program details come later, on the call.
- Follow up quickly. About 1 in 7 replies becomes a meeting. Most of the gap is follow-up: answering within a day and making booking easy.
- Use LinkedIn and email together. Prospects who do not accept a connection request often reply to a short email, and the reverse.
- Count meetings outside the LinkedIn inbox. Only 20% to 55% of the meetings confirmed in our client reports were visible in LinkedIn messages. The rest were booked by email, phone or calendar link.
A note on the UAE
Business leaders in the United Arab Emirates accept connection requests at nearly twice the US rate: 53% across 14,131 requests, against 28% for US chairs, and they reply more than twice as often. Chairs recruiting in the Gulf can expect a busier inbox and should plan for more follow-up capacity.
How long it takes
The first month goes into building the prospect list and writing the messages. Most campaigns book their first meetings in month two, and signings follow as those meetings turn into visits and applications.
What it costs
Opteamus member recruitment outreach starts at $475 a month for 150 new prospects (half board) or $795 for 300 (full board), plus a $295 one-time setup, month to month, and you approve every message before it goes out. Chairs who also want help with meeting logistics, speakers and follow-ups can add a managed VA team from $10 an hour. See the Vistage chair program or compare outreach prices.
